Can I use this barcode generator to sell products on Amazon or Flipkart? expand_more
Not directly for the barcode itself. Amazon and Flipkart require products to have GS1-registered UPC, EAN-13, or ISBN barcodes with licensed prefixes — self-generated barcodes without GS1 registration are not accepted for new product listings on major platforms. GS1 India (gs1india.org) issues registered company prefixes. However, this tool is useful for generating test barcodes during packaging design review, creating internal SKU or inventory barcodes for your own warehouse system, or producing barcodes for products sold through your own website or direct channels.
What is the difference between Code 128 and Code 39? expand_more
Code 128 is a high-density barcode that supports the full ASCII character set (all 128 ASCII characters including lowercase letters and special symbols). It produces shorter barcodes for the same data compared to Code 39 and is the standard for most modern applications. Code 39 supports uppercase letters, digits, and a limited set of special characters. It is simpler (does not require a check character by default), more widely compatible with older scanning hardware, and commonly used in healthcare and industrial environments. For new implementations, Code 128 is generally the better choice unless your scanning infrastructure specifically requires Code 39.

India uses EAN-13 as the standard retail barcode format, which is compatible with the global GS1 system. The EAN-13 barcode consists of 13 digits: a 2-3 digit country prefix (890 for India), a company prefix assigned by GS1 India, a product reference number, and a check digit. For products sold in modern retail stores and on e-commerce platforms, you need a GS1-registered EAN-13 barcode. ITF-14 (Interleaved 2-of-5, 14 digits) is the standard barcode for outer shipping cartons and logistics packaging. While EAN-13 is printed on individual consumer products, ITF-14 is printed on the outer carton or trade unit (the box of 12 individual products, for example). The ITF-14 value is derived from the EAN-13 of the individual product with modifications. It is designed for direct printing on corrugated cardboard and can be printed at lower resolution than EAN-13 while remaining reliably scannable.
Why is SVG better than PNG for printing barcodes? expand_more
SVG is a vector format that describes barcode bars as mathematical shapes rather than pixels. This means it can be rendered at any print resolution — 72 DPI for screen, 300 DPI for commercial printing, or 1200 DPI for professional label printing — with perfectly sharp, crisp bars. PNG is a raster format at a fixed pixel resolution. If you scale a PNG barcode beyond its original size, the bars become pixelated and the barcode may fail to scan. Always use SVG for print use cases; PNG is acceptable for digital display only.
How do I verify that my generated barcode scans correctly? expand_more
Use your phone's camera app (most modern smartphones can scan barcodes natively), a free barcode scanner app, or a physical barcode scanner if you have one. After generating the barcode, display it on screen and scan it — the decoded value should match what you entered. For critical applications (physical product labels, inventory systems), always scan-test the printed label with the actual scanner hardware that will be used in production, since print resolution and scanner distance affect readability.
