Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check if a business name is available in India? expand_more
Three separate checks are needed: (1) Company/LLP name: search on the MCA21 portal (mca.gov.in) — the Registrar of Companies checks for name availability when you file for incorporation. (2) Trademark: search on the IPIndia Trademark Public Search (ipindiaservices.gov.in/TMR) to check if the name is registered or applied for as a trademark in your class. (3) Domain: check on any domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, BigRock) for .com, .in, and .co.in availability. A name can be clear on one and blocked on another — all three checks are needed.
Should I prioritise .com or .in domain for an Indian business? expand_more
For businesses targeting primarily Indian customers, .in or .co.in are perfectly credible and increasingly preferred (and often available when .com is taken). For businesses targeting international customers or positioning as a global brand, .com remains the standard expectation. Many Indian businesses register both — the primary .in and the .com as a redirect or future expansion. Domain registrars like BigRock, GoDaddy India, and Namecheap offer .in domains at ₹300–₹600/year.
