Frequently Asked Questions

Is this invoice generator legally compliant for GST in India? expand_more
The invoice format follows standard GST invoice requirements as specified under the CGST Rules, 2017: it includes supplier and recipient GSTIN, place of supply, HSN/SAC codes, taxable value, applicable GST rates, tax amounts (CGST, SGST, IGST), and total invoice value. However, legal compliance also depends on accuracy of the information you enter — your GSTIN, HSN/SAC codes, applied tax rates, and client details must all be correct. The tool generates the format; ensuring the underlying information is accurate remains your responsibility.
Does this tool store my business information or invoice history? expand_more
No. The tool does not create an account or store any data server-side. All information you enter exists only in your browser session. When you close the tab or navigate away, the data is gone. For invoice record-keeping (which is a legal requirement — GST-registered businesses must retain invoices for at least 6 years), save the downloaded PDF to your own local storage, accounting software, or cloud drive.
Do I need a GSTIN to use this invoice generator? expand_more
No. If your business is not GST-registered (turnover below the threshold or not required for your category), you can generate a simple invoice without a GSTIN — leave that field blank and the tool generates a non-GST bill of supply format. If you are GST-registered, your GSTIN is mandatory on the invoice for B2B transactions and for your client to claim input tax credit.
What is the difference between a tax invoice and a bill of supply? expand_more
A Tax Invoice is issued by GST-registered suppliers for taxable supplies of goods or services. It includes GST amounts and allows the recipient to claim input tax credit. A Bill of Supply is issued by GST-registered suppliers for: (1) exempt supplies (goods/services with 0% GST or specifically exempted), and (2) suppliers under the Composition Scheme. A Bill of Supply does not show any GST amount since no GST is collected on exempt supplies. Small businesses not registered under GST issue a regular invoice without GST details.
What are HSN codes and SAC codes, and where do I find the right one? expand_more
HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) codes classify physical goods for GST purposes. SAC (Services Accounting Codes) classify services. Including the correct HSN/SAC code on invoices is mandatory for registered businesses with turnover above ₹5 crore (6-digit HSN required) and above ₹1.5 crore (4-digit HSN required). The correct code for your product or service can be found on the official GST Council portal (gst.gov.in) or the CBIC HSN code search tool. Using an incorrect HSN code can affect your client's input tax credit claims and potentially attract scrutiny during audits.
