Overview

At Utility Spark, your privacy is not a policy statement — it is an architectural decision. We designed this platform so that the vast majority of our tools process your data entirely within your browser, on your device, without transmitting anything to our servers. This Privacy Policy explains what limited data we do collect (primarily through analytics and advertising), how it is used, and what controls you have over it.

This policy applies to the website located at utilityspark.com and all tools hosted within it. By using Utility Spark, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Utility Spark requires no account registration. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifier unless you explicitly contact us through our contact form or email. The information we passively collect falls into two categories:

  • Usage Analytics: Aggregated, anonymised page view data (pages visited, time on site, browser type, device type, referring URL) collected through Google Analytics 4. This data is anonymised and does not personally identify individual users. IP addresses are anonymised before storage.
  • Advertising Data: Google AdSense collects cookies and data about your browsing behaviour to serve personalised or contextual advertisements. See Section 4 for full details and opt-out options.

We do not collect, store, or transmit the files, text, or data you process through our tools. See Section 2 for the technical explanation of how local processing works.

2. How Local Processing Works

Our tools use browser-native APIs to process your data locally:

  • File operations (PDF, image processing): The HTML5 File API and Canvas API read your file into the browser's memory. Libraries like pdf-lib run entirely in JavaScript on your device. No file data is sent over the network.
  • Cryptographic tools (hash generator, password generator): The Web Crypto API (window.crypto.subtle) performs all cryptographic operations locally using the browser's built-in cryptographic engine.
  • Text tools (JSON formatter, regex tester, case converter): Standard JavaScript string and regex operations execute in-browser. No text content is transmitted.
  • Financial calculators (EMI, GST, Income Tax, PF): All calculations use JavaScript arithmetic in the browser. Your salary, income, or financial figures are never sent to any server.

The practical implication: even if our servers were compromised, an attacker would have no access to the files or data you processed through Utility Spark, because we never received them.

3. Cookies & Advertising

We use the following categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the site to function (e.g. storing your cookie consent preference in localStorage). These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to understand aggregate usage patterns. You can opt out via our Cookie Settings page or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Advertising cookies: Google AdSense uses cookies (IDE, DSID, _gcl_au) to serve advertisements. Google may use your browsing history across other sites to serve personalised ads. You can manage your ad preferences at Google's Ad Settings or opt out of personalised advertising via the NAI opt-out tool.

4. Third-Party Services (Exceptions to Local Processing)

Two tools on Utility Spark require external network requests to function:

  • Currency Converter: To fetch live exchange rates, this tool sends a request containing only the currency pair codes (e.g. "USD/INR") to an external exchange rate API. No personal data, file data, or user-identifiable information is included in this request. The API is bound by a data processing agreement.
  • Word to PDF Converter: To convert .docx files to PDF, the tool connects to a cloud document processing service. Your document is transmitted over HTTPS, processed transiently, and the resulting PDF is returned. The service is contractually prohibited from retaining your document beyond the duration of the conversion task. No document data is permanently stored.

All other 71+ tools process data exclusively in your browser. No additional third-party data processors are used for tool functionality.

For analytics and advertising, we use Google (Analytics 4 and AdSense), which is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

Since we do not collect user accounts or file uploads:

  • Tool-processed data: Not retained at all — it never reaches our servers.
  • Analytics data: Retained by Google Analytics for 14 months (the default retention period) in anonymised aggregate form.
  • Contact messages: If you email us, your message is retained in our email inbox for up to 2 years for correspondence records. You may request deletion at contact.utilityspark@gmail.com.
  • Cookie data: Advertising and analytics cookies expire per the cookie provider's schedule (typically 13 months for Google Analytics _ga cookies). You can clear them at any time via your browser settings.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to access: Request what personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of any personal data we hold. Since we hold minimal data, the most effective action is clearing your browser cookies and local storage associated with utilityspark.com.
  • Right to opt out of personalised advertising: Managed through Google Ad Settings.
  • GDPR (EU/EEA): You have rights under Articles 15–22 of GDPR. Contact us at contact.utilityspark@gmail.com to exercise these rights.
  • CCPA (California): You have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know, delete, and opt-out of sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
  • India (DPDP Act): Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have rights to information, correction, and erasure of your personal data. Contact us at contact.utilityspark@gmail.com.

7. Children's Privacy

Utility Spark is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at contact.utilityspark@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or new features. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Utility Spark after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
